From page 1.September confirmed two suspects, aged 29 to 37, were arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as armed robbery.
She added: “A 9 mm Norinco Pistol was recovered. It will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain if the firearm was used in other crimes.”
Colonel Teboho Jacobs, Hermanus Police station commander, thanked all role-players for the good coordination and speedy response in the apprehension of the suspects.
They appeared in the Hermanus Magistrates’ Court and remain in custody until their next court appearance.
On the run
Further afield in the Overberg, Kleinmond police have launched a manhunt for two suspects involved in an armed robbery at a business in the coastal town’s main road last week.
Warrant Officer Martin Mostert, spokesperson for Kleinmond police, confirmed a third suspect had been arrested and appeared in court.
Three suspects reportedly entered Friendly supermarket at approximately 15:30 on Monday 8 January and threatened the Bangladeshi shop owner with what appeared to be a firearm.
The robbers reportedly emptied the cash register and fled the scene.
Mostert confirmed Kleinmond police were also investigating two other business robberies that had occurred at shops in Overhills and Poppedorp.
“No injuries were reported during any of the robberies,” he stated.
A 31-year old suspect was arrested in Strand and appeared in the Caledon Magistrates’ Court on Friday 12 January in connection with the incident at Friendly Supermarket.
The two other suspects are still at large.
