Hermanus police recently took a wanted suspect into custody thanks to the vigilance and quick reaction of a local security company.

Following two recent burglaries over two consecutive nights at a house in Vermont, the homeowner appointed a Fidelity ADT officer to monitor his property at night.

“Just after 22:00 on Wednesday 28 February, our Fidelity ADT officer, who was intentionally hidden in the garden of the Oker Street property, spotted a suspect jumping over the wall and approaching the house,” Marius Boshoff, Hermanus Branch Manager for Fidelity ADT, related. The officer kept his cover, monitored the suspect closely and immediately alerted the Fidelity ADT control room which, in turn, dispatched various security resources.

The suspect slowly walked around the property looking through several windows before opening a side window that had been left slightly open for the homeowner’s cat.

“As soon as our officer saw the suspect attempting to enter the home through the window he reacted and was able to detain the suspect successfully,” said Boshoff.

The suspect was in possession of a bag he had previously stolen from the house, and he was handed over for arrest to local police officers.

“We commend our officer for his vigilance and bravery, which ensured this repeat offender was caught.”
