Learners of public schools in the Overstrand are invited to participate in the Overstrand Municipality’s “Energy efficiency and sustainability” competition.
Schools can stand a chance to receive R10 000 toward energy efficiency initiatives for their schools in three different categories.
Overstrand Municipal Manager Dean O’Neill explained that the idea is for learners to reflect their understanding of “use only what you need” in order to improve sustainable energy in a poster, video or model.
Overstrand Municipality is part of the Energy Efficiency and Demand Side Management (EEDSM) programme funded by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy. The categories for entry are:. Create a poster: Design a poster that demonstrates your understanding on the concept. . Create a video: Create an informative and creative video that highlights ways Energy Efficiency reduces the impact of climate change, highlighting the importance of saving energy in our homes, schools and communities. . Build a model: Build a model demonstrating Energy Efficiency and Sustainability in the home, school and community.
Schools are allowed one entry per category. The closing date for the competition is 31 July.
