Residents of Napier were empowered with innovative skills and ways to build resilience during a groundbreaking project hosted by the Elpida Foundation, in collaboration with Jaci Phillips-Behr of Sustainable Innovation Leadership Organization (SILO) and Igsaan Hugo from Seriti Skills Development PBO.
As the session on Saturday 31 August unfolded the community’s enthusiasm grew. Hands-on plumbing training and entrepreneurial mentorship empowered participants to create sustainable livelihoods. Simultaneously, SILO’s agricultural wisdom taught the value of cultivating growth, paralleling the importance of self-care.
Seriti Skills Development brought expertise in plumbing and entrepreneurship, equipping participants with practical tools to tackle everyday challenges. Hugo’s guidance sparked creativity, inspiring those attending to turn ideas into thriving businesses.
Meanwhile, Phillips-Behr contributed agricultural and psychological insights aimed at cultivating holistic well-being. Her compassionate approach helped the beneficiaries nurture emotional resilience, harnessing the therapeutic benefits of agriculture.
Phillips-Behr’s psychological perspectives were aimed at helping them confront day-to-day struggles, prompting emotional resilience. “The integration of these diverse disciplines creates a different approach to community development,” said Chandré Behr of Elpida Foundation.
Through interactive workshops, heartfelt discussions and collective brainstorming Napier’s residents discovered hidden strengths. They envisioned a brighter future, where thriving businesses and lush gardens flourished alongside mental well-being.
Elpida Foundation’s support amplified the impact, ensuring the initiative’s long-term sustainability. As the session concluded, the community beamed with renewed hope.
“Igsaan Hugo and Jaci Phillips-Behr’s compassion kindled a fire of belief in themselves among participants, leading them on their path to self-sufficiency,” Behr concluded. “SSD and SILO’s synergy awakened Napier’s community’s potential.”
