With four schools in the Overberg boasting a 100% matric pass rate this year, the region can be proud of every matric, teacher and parent.
The remarkable achievement also saw the Overberg placed in the top 5 best performing districts. Gauteng: Johannesburg West is in first place with 96,20%, KwaZulu-Natal: Umkhanyakude in second place with 93,63%, The Overberg in third place with 92,36%, KwaZulu-Natal: Pinetown in fourth place with 92,20% and Gauteng: Tshwane North in fifth place with 92,03%.
The four schools in the Overberg that boast a 100% pass rate are Bredasdorp High School, De Villiers Graaff High School in Villiersdorp, Hermanus High School and Overberg High School. Curro Hermanus also boasts a 100% pass rate and the school posted the following on Facebook: “We are so proud of our Matric class of 2025.”
Apart from the 100% pass rate, the school also boasts 100% tertiary exemption, 10 A aggregates, 16 B aggregates, 107 subject A aggregates, 86 subject B aggregates, 87 subject C aggregates and two distinctions per candidate. The following learners are part of the top 1% of IEB candidates in the country in the following subjects:
Nicole Schutte (hospitality studies), Kira Hiestermann (life orientation) and Divan Stander (tourism).
Hermanus High School is equally excited about their results and according to principal Mike Smuts, Hermanus High School is incredibly proud of the class of 2025’s 100% pass rate. “193 learners is our largest matriculation class in our school’s history.
“They were also the first group to start Grade 8 during Covid-19 with masks and the great unknown.The Hermanus High School Matric Class of 2025 is commended for their outstanding performance with the NSC exams. The school is happy to report that its pass percentage is 100%,” he stated.
More impressive is that 164 out of 193 candidates (85%) have earned a Bachelor Degree Pass (University Exemption). The Western Cape has a 49,2% bachelor’s degree pass rate, whereas the Overberg district has a 49,5% bachelor’s pass rate. Altogether 23 candidates achieved an A aggregate and 47 candidates achieved a B aggregate, and a total of 254 subject distinctions. The top achievers are Larissa Heunis (89,7%), Mia Momberg (89,3%), Janré Fourie (88,3%), Sheryl-Anne Green (87,7%), Julian du Toit (87,3%), Tobie Fourie (87,2%), Lilarayn Schenck (86%), Miencke Joubert (85,5%), Migael van Wageningen (84,3%) and Saskia Bouwers (84%).
Another school that many are proud of is Qhayiya High School in Zwelihle. With a pass rate of 89,5%, the school is going from strength to strength.
The schools in the area with their pass rates are as follows: Albert Myburg Secondary School (74,3%), Hoërskool Bredasdorp (100%), De Rust Futura Academy (98,9%), De Villiers Graff (100%), Emil Weder Secondary School (91,3%), Gansbaai Academia (95,8%), Grabouw High School (90,6%), Groenberg Secondary School (91,4%), Hawston Secondary School (84,9%), Hermanus High School (100%), Northcliff House College (90,9%), Overberg High School (100%), Qhayiya High School (89,5%), Riviersonderend High School (91,2%), Swartberg Secondary School (86,7%) and Villiersdorp Secondary School (79,4%).
