When life coach and motivational speaker from Grabouw Anthony September reflects on the 16 years he lost to illness he doesn’t dwell on what could have been. Instead, he sees those dark years as the foundation for the wisdom that now fills the pages of his second book, How to embrace your destiny.
“I lost almost 16 years of my life to illness,” September shared with quiet conviction. “But I conquered it with the help of the Lord Almighty. I can therefore relate to many people’s hardships through my experiences. That is why it is easy for me to bring inspiration through speech and writing.”
This personal triumph over adversity has become the cornerstone of his life coaching practice and the driving force behind his latest publication. Where many see obstacles September sees opportunities to connect with clients who face their own seemingly insurmountable challenges.
From Setback to Success
The inspiration for his second book came from observing a common struggle among his clients and readers. “So many people are chasing after their dreams and destinies,” he explained, “but find it difficult to embrace them. This is what inspired me to write my second book with the help of God. “
The overwhelmingly positive response to September’s first book provided additional motivation.
Readers found the material “very helpful, inspiring and useful in their lives,” feedback that automatically inspired him to continue writing.
But between the first and second publications something significant happened; September grew as a coach and person, and here’s why: “With all the coaching information I have published I have enriched myself with even more wisdom and insight.”
Practical Wisdom for Everyday Struggles
His approach to life coaching is refreshingly straightforward, addressing what he identifies as the most common obstacle his clients face: struggling with self-esteem. September has developed what he calls a “life coaching remedy” to stop this “emotional gate crasher” in its tracks.
“The manner in which you get up in the morning will determine how your day will be,” he writes in his book. “Set your mind in such a way for your day, that negativity will fall to its knees.” September’s philosophy challenges the instant-gratification mindset that plagues many people today. “The biggest mistake people tend to make is trying to become successful overnight. When I do life coaching with clients I explain to them that there is a time frame for everything we do and want to achieve. No success is instant.” One of his favourite pieces of advice, which he also dispenses in the book, encapsulates this patient approach to success: “Make your next move while pursuing your dreams with anticipation and use your talent with wisdom.”
Balancing Multiple Roles
Juggling writing with his active life coaching practice, along with facilitating and motivational speaking, may seem overwhelming, but September finds it naturally complementary. “The only difference between actual coaching with a client or group and writing is speaking inspiration and writing inspiration.”
His target audience spans all ages, reflecting his belief that “everyone irrespective of their age struggles with problems and challenges.” September’s job, as he sees it, is “to break the mental wall down in front of clients and make a way for them through their hardships.”
Looking Forward
Already working on his third book, which will focus on climbing life’s “mountains” that prevent people from reaching their platform of success, he continues drawing inspiration from mentors like Tony Robbins while maintaining his authentic voice. “It is good to learn from others, but to remain authentic and true to yourself,” he emphasised. “This is how I believe we should operate in our talents and gifts.” The most rewarding aspect of September’s work remains witnessing transformation, “to see how my clients move from being broken to a mentally solid person over time.”
His message to readers struggling with their own challenges comes from hard-won experience. “I trust the impact of this book will teach readers to hold onto their dreams, even if it looks as if it won’t materialise. Life looked dark but I nurtured my dreams when it looked as if all was lost. By persevering I became what I always wanted to be.” To his younger self and anyone facing seemingly impossible circumstances he offers this wisdom. “Whatever you are about to face in life is not fatal. And the only limit in your life is the one you set for yourself.” For more information about the book, phone 081 249 1347.
