The Walkerbay Women’s Rugby Team invites all rugby fans to attend their tournament at the Hawston Sport Field on Saturday 30 August.

Sport enthusiasts in the Overberg can look forward to a feast of sports this weekend with local female rugby players and netball players from across the province showcasing their talents at sporting events.

The Western Cape Netball Federation’s two-day long Provincial Women and Girls Tournament will be held at Hermanus Primary School in Dirkie Uys Street. It starts on Friday 29 August at 14:30, with the first matches between Cape Winelands A-team and Cape Town Disas on Court B and West Coast A-Team vs the Overberg A-Team on Court C.

The second round starts at 15:25 with Cape Town Roses against West Coast B-Team on Court A, Cape Town Tulips vs Overberg B-Team on court B and Cape Winelands B-Team vs Central Karoo on court C. Round 3 starts at 16:15 with the Cape Town Proteas and West Coast A-Team on Court B and Overberg A-Team versus Cape Winelands A-Team on Court C. The official opening of the two-day event is at 17:30.

The netball action starts again on Saturday with the first matches at 08:00 when the Overberg B-Team takes on the Cape Town Roses on Court A, Central Karoo vs West Coast B-Team on Court B and Cape Winelands B-Team vs the Cape Town Tulips on Court C.

Round 5 of the tournament starts at 08:55 with the Cape Town Disas and Overberg A-Team on Court B and the Cape Town Proteas and Cape Winelands A-Team on Court C. The last matches of the tournament start at 13:30 when the Cape Town Roses come up against the Cape Town Tulips on Court A, West COast B-Team versus the Cape Winelands B-Team on Court B and Central Karoo against Overberg B-Team on Court C.

And if rugby is more up your alley, you should head to the Women’s Day Rugby Tournament hosted by the Walkerbay Women’s Rugby Club (Walkerbay Babes) at the Hawston Sport Field from 11:00. First on the programme are the Struisbaai Angels and Hawston u-13 girls’ teams at 11:00, followed at 12:00 by the game between the u-16 teams of Hawston and Struisbaai Angels. Bissets Drift and Swartberg’s u-18 teams will kick off at 13:00.

The main match of the day is between the Walkerbay Babes and Mamre at 14:30.

Organisers say rugby lovers can look forward to a spectacular display of rugby with upcoming young female rugby players set to play their hearts out and show off their skills.

The entry fee is R10 for adults and R5 for children.
