School Committee election: At a meeting held last Tuesday, the record number of 140 parents voted in the election of the School Committee. Owning to the objection on the part of one of the retiring Committee, a further vote by poll had been requested, the results of which should be known in a month’s time when the voting papers are counted.

The election of a Committee for the Hermanus High School consisting of seven members takes place every three years. Although all parents are encouraged to attend, never in the past has there been so large a gathering as there was last Tuesday. It is estimated that there are about 250 parents of school-children in Hermanus.

All parents will now receive a paper on which they will be required to fill in the names of nominees for whom they wish to vote. The papers will have to be certified by a commissioner of oaths. On a date to be arranged they will be opened and counted in a secret ballot.

The names of those nominated for election are as follows: Mr JR Barnard, Mr Durant, Mr R Border, Mr H A Greef, Mr WH Paterson, Mr L Gordon, Mr Duminy, FR Grobbelaar, Mr P Filmalter, Mr D Schneider and Mr R Spence. Of these first seven were members of the retiring committee, Mr Gordon having taken the place of Canon Hinchliff.
