The Cape Epic will be held from 15-22 March.

The Overberg remains a favorite destination for the Cape Epic. And this year this prestigious race makes its seventh visit to the Overberg.

Greyton is preparing to roll out the red carpet once again as the world’s most gruelling mountain bike stage race, the 2026 Absa Cape Epic, confirmed the town as a key destination. From 15-22 March, elite international mountain bikers will tackle 692 km of unforgiving South African terrain with a lung-burning 15 900 meters of climbing.

For Greyton, this marks the seventh time the town has hosted stages of cycling’s most prestigious event, having previously welcomed riders in 2004, 2006, 2009, 2014, 2017, and 2022.

Greyton will play host to not just one, but three crucial stages of the eight-day epic – serving as the venue for Stages 3 and 4, before sending riders off on Stage 5. This extended stay promises to transform the usually tranquil hamlet into a bustling hub of international sporting activity.

“Few places embody the comfort and chaos of trail riding quite like Greyton,” race organisers note. The Greyton trail network offers a masterful combination of technical challenge and natural splendour that has made it a favourite return destination for Cape Epic route planners.

“The climbs are wicked, the descents exhilarating and the scenery distractingly beautiful,” organisers warn. “It’s a place that rewards rhythm and punishes hesitation – a true test of both legs and nerve.”

Local mountain biking enthusiasts can get more information about Greyton’s trail network at www.greytonmtb.co.za, while those planning to attend the 2026 Cape Epic can expect route details and accommodation information to be released in the coming months.

The 2026 Absa Cape Epic is presented by Toyota and forms the pinnacle event of the global Epic Series.
