Twelve of Cape Town’s most celebrated restaurants will bring the city together at Green Point Cricket Club for the Taste of Cape Town event on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 November.
The festival starts from a simple idea: the best way to celebrate Cape Town’s restaurants is to bring the whole city to them.
For one weekend, 12 kitchens that have put the city on the world’s food map will cook side by side, with a seat for every guest who comes. It is a summer occasion the whole city can own.
“Cape Town does not show up for menus. It shows up for the table,” said Bonnke Shipalana, Group CEO of The Allure Group, which holds the exclusive IMG licence for Taste in South Africa.
“The meal you remember from a Cape Town summer is not the one with the most courses; it is the one everyone was at. For two days, La Colombe, FYN and Vuur cook in the same field, and a R450 ticket gets you to every one of those tables.”

More beyond the plate
Confirmed chefs include James Gaag of La Colombe, Amori Burger of Upper Union, Vusi Ndlovu of EDGE Africa, Shaun Scrooby of Vuur and Bertus Basson of Basson & Co, joined by FYN founder Peter Tempelhoff and culinary director Ashley Moss.
The event sees the City of Cape Town as a partner of the festival.
Beyond the plates, the festival is designed to “feed every sense”. Guests can expect live cooking demonstrations, a live music stage, Graham Beck as cap classique partner, and wines from Kleine Zalze, Cavalli, Waterford, Steenberg Vineyards and Boekenhoutskloof.
Tickets start at R450 for the Taste Entry Pass, which gives full festival access to every restaurant, demo and pour. Taste Premium at R595 adds a Signature dish voucher. Taste Lux at R895 adds a welcome drink and an exclusive dish voucher. Taste Lux Friends brings four people in for R3 222, a saving of R358. Capacity is limited to 4 000 guests per day.
Tickets are available at tasteofcapetown.com and via Quicket.
