Luyanda Tobigunya (back) and Damon Terblanche of Team Fairtree DP World Cannondale Race in action during the Lions Karoo-to-Coast mountain-biking event on Sunday (22 September). The two riders were part of the four-man team that tackled the 100 km challenge from Uniondale to Knysna, with Ethan Michaels and Ziandro Jordaan making up the Stellenbosch MTB crew’s contingent. Three of the riders finished in the top 20 of the gruelling race. Tobigunya finished in sixth place overall with a time of 3:25:05, followed by Michaels in 11th place (3:29:26), Terblanche in 13th place (3:34:45) and Jordaan just outside the top 20 in 22nd place in a time of 3:45:08. “The team had an incredible race with three of the team members ending in the top 20. Particularly exciting is seeing the progress of 18-year-old Michaels, who continues to impress with his work ethic and results. We are looking forward to the team events coming up towards the end of the year,” said team manager Chris Norton. Photo: Chris Hitchcock
