Four riders of Team Fairtree DP World Cannondale participated in the Western Cape XCO Champs XCO Cup Series at Bloemendal in Durbanville on Saturday (18 May). The talented mountain-biker Luyanda Tobigunya (pictured) claimed a spot on the podium, placing third with a time of 1:15:51 in the Elite Men’s and Vets category. He was closely followed by his teammates Kusaselihle Ngidi (seventh, 1:23:54) and Ongeziwe Tyapa (eighth, 1:24:05). Their other teammate, Sithelelwe Xhala, unfortunately did not finished the race. “The team has come a long way in these events. Traditionally we battled to perform as we did not take part in many and therefore the format did not suit the riders,” said team manager Chris Norton. “Now that the team has gained experience and is regularly taking part in the series, we are seeing some great results and they will only improve as the season progresses.” He further thanked the Western Province Mountain-biking Commission and the team’s core sponsors – DP World, Fairtree, Cannondale and Biogen – for making the event possible.
