The Winelands Safety Initiative (WSI), with the support of Stellenbosch Municipality, Community Wolf and Visit Stellenbosch, distributed new red safety bibs and sun hats to parking attendants from Khayamandi operating in the Stellenbosch central business district.
The initiative aims to enhance visibility, community participation and safety. Participation is voluntary and unpaid, with attendants relying solely on tips for income while working from early morning until late.
Each attendant has undergone police clearance, possesses valid identification and received an official ID card featuring Zapper and SnapScan options to make tipping safer and more convenient.
The municipality’s Department of Community Development also conducted Give Responsibly (GR) awareness sessions, educating attendants on GR coupons to help reduce the cash economy linked to street begging.
