Stellenbosch Golf Club will provide the perfect backdrop for a day filled with friendly competition and a shared commitment to really make a difference at Lückhoff High School through the vision of the alumni.

Golfing enthusiasts and supporters are invited to join alumni on Friday 10 October at the home to the 2026 Investec South African Open. The aim of the day is to raise much-needed funds to re-establish Lückhoff High to a top school to which everyone wants to send their children.

Gilroy Williams, retired school principal, sportsman and golf day organiser veteran, has been challenged to make this a memorable event.

“It is really a humbling experience to do this for my alma mater. These last five months were very stressful, as I put enough pressure on myself to do better than before. I normally take my dog, Kai, for a walk on the local sports field in the morning and that is where the next ‘big idea’ comes from – in the peaceful surroundings. I do this for all my brothers and sisters who passed through the gates of the then old Lückhoff School and the Lückhoff High we know today, with its proud history of sportsmen and academia,” he says.

Williams urges everyone all alumni to get involved.

There are various ways to show your support, including matric groups donating funds, as there are many expenses prior to the golf day. “Or come in your droves, pack your picnic bag and come and support the players,” Williams implores.

The support the organisers have received from businesses in and around Stellenbosch has been amazing, Williams adds.

The format is a four-ball better stableford, with a R5 000 entry fee or R1 250 per person. Wet holes are available at R1 500 and various prizes are up for grabs. There will also be an auction of sporting memorabilia, wines and more.
