Golfer Casey Jarvis
Casey Jarvis celebrates with the championship trophy after winning the 115th Investec South African Open Championship at Stellenbosch Golf Club on Sunday (1 March). The 22-year-old South African golfer closed with a final round of 67 to finish at 14-under par, securing a three-stroke victory over France’s Frederic Lacroix, Italy’s Francesco Laporta and compatriot Hennie du Plessis, who shared second place on 11-under par. Jarvis’ triumph marks his second consecutive DP World Tour victory, following his win in Kenya the previous week, making him only the second South African after Jayden Schaper to achieve back-to-back wins on the tour this season. The victory carries significant rewards beyond the trophy, earning Jarvis coveted exemptions to both The Masters in April and The Open Championship in July. “It just feels amazing,” said Jarvis after his historic win. “To be standing in this position right now, I truly feel on top of the world.” The young star, who has now won every major national amateur and professional trophy in South African golf, played in front of record crowds at his home open, fulfilling a dream that began when he volunteered at the tournament at the 2017, just to watch his golfing heroes play.
