End of the road for FNB Maties in Varsity Cup

Aydon Topley, centre of FNB Maties, looks to find a gap in the defence of FNB UFS Shimlas in the semi-final of the Varsity Cup at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch on Monday (15 April). Topley scored one of Maties’ four tries in their 24-38 defeat against the men from Bloemfontein. The Maroon Machine started slowly, but did well to recover from a 0-12 deficit on the scoreboard after 20 minutes. Their mistakes, however, ultimately cost them the match and a place in the final, as they were outscored by five tries to four. The Varsity Cup final will be contested by FNB UFS Shimlas and FNB UCT Ikeys in Bloemfontein next Monday (22 April).
