The Early Education Centre (TEEC) will be hosting another Character Building Holiday Programme. This year will be the sixth year that they will run this programme.
The programme will run from 27 June to 8 July from 09:00 to 15:00 at the Toy Library in 31 Rhode Street, Cloetesville (at the bottom of God’s Faith Mission Church).
TEEC is a registered non-profit and public benefit organisation which aims to improve the quality of early learning and education received by young children from birth to nine years of age, in disadvantaged communities in Stellenbosch and surrounding areas.
Bonita Daniels, ECD Educator and Facilitator at TEEC, said the programme allows vulnerable young children to experience being a child, to rise above their circumstances and develop their character to that which is acceptable in a functional society.
“The programme’s aim is always to develop children holistically and promote learning through structured play, by offering a safe space to keep children out of mischief and away from the many bad elements that they are exposed to on a daily basis. We also help them with discipline and to always stop and think.”
She said they accept the philosophy that children find identity, meaning and purpose in life through connections in their community and values that include compassion and treating others appropriately. “Our approach to the holistic development of children addresses the physical, social, emotional, intellectual, life skills and spiritual aspects of the child.”
Daniels said there will also be some nutrition for the young ones. “Since the school feeding scheme does not operate during school holidays which results in children having little or nothing to eat, we recognized that hungry children cannot learn as effectively as children who enjoy adequate nutrition. Consequently children are provided with nutrition required (breakfast, snack and lunch) to enhance their learning experience and development.”
