Men, women on point for traffic

In the hopes of combating traffic congestion in town, Stellenbosch Municipality, in partnership with OUTsurance, introduced the OUTsurance pointsmen earlier this month. At the official launch last Friday (20 January) Stellenbosch mayor Advocate Gesie van Deventer welcomed this initiative, saying it will not only add value to traffic regulations in the town, but the project is also a form of necessary job creation. The pointsmen received training from and report directly to the municipal Traffic Department. The men and women in the brightly coloured bibs are deployed at busy intersections in Stellenbosch between 07:00 and 09:00 and again from 16:00 to 18:00 daily.Photo: Angelo Julies
