A fatal collision at a busy Somerset West intersection claimed the life of a 32-year-old motorcyclist last Thursday morning (29 January).
Warrant Officer Suzan Jantjies, spokesperson for Somerset West police, confirmed that the incident occurred around 09:45 at the intersection of Winery and Raithby roads.
According to Jantjies, the motorcyclist was travelling on a black BMW along Winery Road towards the R44, when he reportedly attempted to overtake a truck moving in the same direction.
At the same time, the driver of an old white Toyota Corolla station wagon was turning into Raithby Road, resulting in a collision between the motorcycle and the vehicle.
The motorcyclist was apparently flung from the bike when it crashed into the rear of the vehicle.
