Langa police officers are investigating a case of murder after a taxi owner was gunned down at the Langa Taxi rank on Tuesday 8 February.
The motive behind the killing remains a mystery.
In a statement, spokesperson for the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA) Mandla Hermanus said the organisation is devastated by the incident.
“We are shocked to hear of a shooting incident at the Langa Taxi rank. We condemn the killing and we urge law enforcement to do everything in their power to arrest the perpetrators,” said Hermanus.
He refused to comment further, saying the organisation did not have enough information regarding the incident.
“The CATA leadership is away and as such we don’t have information on the circumstances surrounding the incident,” said Hermanus.
Langa Police Station spokesperson Capt Nondumiso Paul said the deceased was shot in the head twice and died on the scene.
“Two cartridges were found at the scene. The deceased was found with the firearm in his possession,” she said.
Paul said the deceased was residing at Brown’s Farm in Philippi.
