Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (Cata) president Siviwe Kiva remained in jail after appearing in the Paarl Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 1 June, on a charge of premeditated murder.
National Prosecuting Authority comments on the case
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson in the Western Cape, Eric Ntabazalila said additional charges are likely to be added.
“His case has been postponed until Thursday, 4 June, for a formal bail application. The State will oppose bail,” said Ntabazalila.

Kiva was granted R30 000 bail by the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 21 May, in connection with a separate murder case, but remained behind bars. He was arrested earlier last month in Engcobo, Eastern Cape on a murder charge before being transported to the Western Cape.
Strict bail conditions imposed on Kiva
As part of his bail conditions, Kiva was ordered to attend all future court appearances until the matter is finalised.
“He was also ordered not to have any contact with State witnesses, either directly or indirectly, pending the finalisation of the matter,” Ntabazalila said.
“In addition, he must report to Table View Police Station four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays between 10:00 and 17:00.”
Kiva is expected to reside at Leadville Way in Sunningdale, Cape Town, for the duration of the case.
