Cape Town, Swellendam and Stellenbosch audiences will be the first to see Luna Paige and Hugo Veldsman share a stage in a Roots Retrospective, which opens on 22 July. Three further shows follow in August.

What to expect

Roots Retrospective is a live collaboration led by Paige, piano-driven and song-focused, rooted in folk, blues and jazz traditions. Grounded in storytelling and shaped through a South African lens, the show features expressive piano and acoustic-guitar textures accompanying her distinctive soulful voice.

Paige’s catalogue spans more than two decades of Americana-inspired material across folk, folk-rock, country and blues, blending blues sensibility with roots-driven warmth and poetic depth.

Joining her is singer-songwriter and guitarist Veldsman, whose acoustic minimalism, finger-style guitar work and atmospheric playing bring a rich counterpoint to the set. Drawing on Americana, folk and blues traditions, and grounded in classical-guitar training, he is known for expressive, technically refined playing, from intricate finger picking to soulful lap steel, often described as “tasty and languid” in feel. Veldsman also performs a selection of his own similarly styled songs as part of the show.

Together, the two create an immersive musical journey that reimagines Americana-inspired music through a personal and collaborative South African lens.
