Cheshire Home residents in Langa had time to remember on Monday 17 June when the owner of a popular local eatery served them with special meals to commemorate Youth Month.
Cheshire is a non-profit organisation that accommodates people with severe disabilities.
It has currently 22 residents, some of whom are referred by the Department of Social Development or hospitals.
Mandla Mlambo, owner of Tyhopho’s Grilled Chicken, described the event as part of giving back to the community. He said he saw a need to support the home. “This is part of showing love to the residents. We also wanted to show them they are not alone. We understand some of them don’t have visitors, so we were also trying to put a smile on their faces.”
Mlambo labelled the outreach as his second such initiative, adding he intended to host it on every public holiday, particularly holidays with a historic element.
“Our first initiative was on Heritage Day in September last year at the Langa Adult Home. This is a second initiative at Cheshire Home. We are intending to do another on Women’s Day in August.”
Speaking on behalf of Cheshire, Zizo Maxama described the event as a great initiative.
She said staff and residents were over the moon.
“It was a great dinner,” said Maxama, and urged other organisations to come on board. “We really enjoyed it. Even our residents were so happy. It shows there are people who still have a good heart out there.
