In an effort to give back to the community, members of Green Riders from Langa carried out community service initiatives in the area on Wednesday, 20 May.
Green Riders is a company that is disrupting and revolutionising the last-mile delivery space for fast food and small goods in South Africa.
Green Riders trainer Nceba Manyike said they were involved in various initiatives aimed at giving back to the community.
Community service forms part of youth programme
“As a company, we have three initiatives that we are doing in Langa today (Wednesday 20 May). One group is sweeping the streets, another group is cleaning at the police station and the last group is cleaning at the Langa Cheshire Home. The aim is to give back to the community,” said Manyike.
He explained that their programme focuses on training delivery riders and sales and marketing with the aim of creating job opportunities for young people.
Six-month programme gives hope to unemployed youth
“We are targeting young people between the ages of 18 and 28. This is a six-month training programme. We are trying to take them away from the streets,” he explained.
He added that they are working together with Uber Eats and Mr D.

A trainee, Mazwi Pendu, who is training to become a delivery rider, described the initiative as helpful. He said he had been unemployed for a long time.
“I completed my matric in 2019 and since then I have been doing odd jobs. I believe the training will change my life for the better,” said Pendu.
He urged young people to grab any opportunities that come their way.
