Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (Cata) boss Siviwe Kiva remains behind bars on other charges, after being released on R30 000 bail by the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 21 May

Kiva was arrested earlier this month in Engcobo in the Eastern Cape on a murder charge before being transported to the Western Cape.

Kiva remains behind bars despite bail

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson in the Western Cape Eric Ntabazalila confirmed Kiva had been granted bail, but was kept in custody on other charges.

“He is still in prison on other charges which are not related to the case he appeared in court for on Thursday 21 May. However, I do not have the full details because the docket will only arrive when he appears in the Paarl Magistrates’ Court on Monday 1 June.”

He added that, as part of his bail conditions, Kiva was ordered to attend all future court appearances until the matter was finalised.

“He was also ordered not to have any contact with state witnesses, either directly or indirectly, pending the finalisation of the matter,” Ntabazalila said. “In addition, he must report to Table View Police Station four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays between 10:00 and 17:00.”

Kiva will reside at Leadville Way, Sunningdale, Cape Town for the duration of the case.
