GAMTOOS VALLEY – A man was killed and two security guards were injured in a crash involving two cash-in-transit vehicles and a Hyundai H-1 on the N2 at Gamtoos Valley in the early hours of 29 July.

According to the Eastern Cape Department of Transport, preliminary reports indicate that the seven-seater was travelling on the wrong side of the road when it collided with one of the armoured vehicles.

The department said that, in an apparent attempt to avoid the collision, the second cash-in-transit vehicle veered off the road and down an embankment.

“The driver of the seven-seater was declared dead at the scene, while two security guards sustained injuries and were transported to hospital for medical treatment,” the department said.

The department further said that the scene remains under investigation and that the South African Police Service will determine the exact cause of the crash.

“The department extends its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and wishes the injured a speedy recovery. Motorists are urged to remain vigilant and obey the rules of the road at all times,” the department said.
