A learner of the Eunice High School represented the South African Aquatics Team at the Africa Aquatics Championships in Oran, Algeria, and brought back nine medals.

The event was hosted from 5 May to Sunday 10 May.

Leila Yazbek won gold in three events in the junior championship: the 200 m breaststroke, 200 m individual medley and 100 m butterfly.

She also won silver in the 400 m medley and in the 100 m breaststroke; and bronze in the 200 m freestyle.

Leila won three medals as part of various South African relay teams. Both the South African junior and senior teams won their sections.

Her medals in relays are:

• gold in the women’s 4 x 200 m freestyle;
• silver in the mixed 4 x 100 m freestyle; and
• bronze in the women’s 4 x 100 m freestyle.
