BLOEMFONTEIN: The Central University of Technology (CUT) rewarded sportsmen and sportswomen, across different sporting codes, who excelled in the past year when it held its year-end function on Thursday, 16 October. Recognition was given for the period October 2024 to September 2025.

Some of the highlights were the recognition of Martha Mosoahle-Samm and Karla Victor, for their achievements in netball.

Mosoahle-Samm was named coach of the year, recognising her exceptional contributions to the sport both within the CUT and nationally, as well as internationally. The former Spar Proteas star inspired the Free State Crinums to win the 2024 Telkom Netball League (TNL) title and helped guide the CUT Netball team to qualify for the Varsity Netball tournament.

Victor was named both newcomer of the year and sportswoman of the year. She was recognised for captaining the South African U20 netball team at the Youth Championship World Cup; leading CUT Netball to victory in the University Sports South Africa (Ussa) A2 league; and helping CUT qualify for next year’s Varsity Netball tournament.

Victor’s additional achievements include representing the Mangaung Senior A team at the national championships and representing the South African U21 Baby Proteas in the Jamaica Test Series, while serving as vice-captain at the World Youth Championships in Gibraltar.
