BLOEMFONTEIN – A minibus taxi driver has been admitted to a local hospital in Bloemfontein for treatment of severe injuries following a collision involving an Interstate Bus Lines (IBL) bus in the Bloemfontein central business district (CBD) at about 06:30 this morning – Friday 8 May. No fatalities were reported.

The bus driver escaped unharmed, while four passengers from the bus were transported to the Pelonomi Regional Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The accident occurred at the traffic-light-controlled intersection of Hanger and Charles Streets. The minibus was written off, while the bus sustained front-end damage.

Gopolang Monnatlale, IBL’s stakeholder relations officer, confirmed that only passengers were affected after the accident. “A preliminary medical assessment of the bus driver revealed he was unharmed. The four passengers were discharged from the hospital following treatment for minor injuries,” he said.
