BLOEMFONTIEN – The N1 highway’s southbound lanes near Bloemfontein are temporarily closed for traffic following a fatal accident involving pedestrians which occurred earlier this evening. Motorists traveling south bound are requested to use alternative roads in the meantime.
Free State police spokesperson Captain Loraine Earle said the fatal accident involving two pedestrians has resulted in the closure of the N1 highway’s southbound lanes near the Ferreira turn-off.
“Motorists travelling southbound are urged to avoid the area, use alternative routes where possible, and exercise patience while emergency personnel remain on scene,” said Earle, adding that police and other relevant authorities were processing the accident scene and conducting investigations into the circumstances of the accident.
“Preliminary reports indicate that two pedestrians sustained fatal injuries. A case of culpable homicide is being investigated,” said Earle. She said further updates would be communicated as more information became available.
