BLOEMFONTEIN: A boccia player of the Martie du Plessis School received a silver medal for a well-deserved second place at the World Boccia African Regional Championships in Cairo, Egypt.
Naledi Nhlapo took part in the chamionships that was held from 29 July to 3 August.
This matric learner managed to excel on the boccia court along with braving all the academic pressures of her final year of schooling.
She plays in the BC4 category and, in fact, has held the title as the top player in this category in South Africa since last year.
Holding on to her title during the national championships for the physically disabled in April, she was selected as part of the South African team that travelled to Cairo.
Her second place in the women’s BC4 singles game at the championships came after she played against Aune Ametenya from Namibia and won 5 – 2. She then competed against Hana Elfar from Egypt in the final.
