A well-known public and business leader, Dr Moeketsi Emmanuel Mosola, has received an all-round endorsement from the Free State government on his appointment as the new chief executive officer (CEO) of the Free State’s Maluti-A-Phofung Special Economic Zone.

Both Premier MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae and director-general Dr Molefinyana Phera have expressed confidence in his leadership ability.

Mosola’s appointment was announced on Tuesday 7 April and he has been enlisted on a year’s renewable contract. He succeeds Mpho Mngemane in the influential position.

Letsoha-Mathae highlighted Mosola’s prestigious academic qualifications and extensive leadership experience spanning three decades in both the public and private sectors as fundamental to bringing desired changes needed to grow the province’s economy. His qua-

lifications include a PhD in Management, a master’s degree in Economics and international academic training. Mosola’s high-profile positions held includes, among others, serving as city manager of the City of Tshwane, CEO of South African Tourism and the Nkangala Economic Development Agency.

Letsoha-Mathae stressed that Mosola’s appointment was aligned with the Free State government’s new phase of decisive action, where governance, professionalism and delivery will define the success of the 7th administration.

“This appointment will contribute significantly to restoring public trust, strengthening institutions, and advancing economic transformation in the province. This appointment is a strategic investment in capability, integrity, and delivery. It is a decisive step in advancing the province’s commitment to building a capable, ethical and developmental state,” she said.

According to Letsoha-Mathae, the appointment was a collaborative approach reflecting the provincial government’s commitment to fiscal discipline, governance excellence, and strategic alignment across departments.

She acknowledged the critical role played by Ketso Makume, MEC for Finance, Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, in supporting a credible process to secure leadership that will drive economic transformation, investment, and institutional stability in the province.

Mosola has reaffirmed his commitment to serving with integrity, dedication and a clear focus on delivery, in line with the vision of a capable, ethical and developmental state.

“This is an honour and a responsibility. I’m committed to working with the leadership of the province, stakeholders, and the people of the Free State to drive inclusive growth, strengthen institutions, and ensure that government delivers meaningfully in the lives of our people,” said Mosola.

Phera stressed the appointment underscores the importance of professionalising the public sector by appointing high-calibre individuals.

“The province’s ongoing skills audits, competency assessments and institutional reforms are part of a broader effort to ensure that public service is anchored on merit, performance, and accountability.

“Building a capable state requires balance, systems and policies as well as leadership that combines technical expertise, ethical grounding, and practical execution,” said Phera.
