As part of its water awareness drive, the Cape Winelands District Municipality (CWDM) kick-started a project distributing devices called the \u201cToilet Tummy\u201d at Esselen Park Senior Secondary School in Worcester.<\/p>\n
The Toilet Tummy is a sturdy plastic device that, once filled with water, can be placed into a cistern so that less water is used when flushing. Besides water saving advantages, the device offers further benefits, in that it can fit into the modern smaller cisterns a brick cannot even fit in. <\/p>\n
The newly elected chairperson and vice-chairperson of the Student Representative Council of the school performed their first \u201cofficial\u201d duty when they received 30 bags from CWDM officials on their school\u2019s behalf.<\/p>\n
The municipality, along with their counterparts in other regions, will distribute the water displacement devices to schools, hostels and guest houses throughout the district. <\/p>\n
\u201cBy now, everyone is aware that toilet flushing uses up vast quantities of water,\u201d a municipal representative explained to learners, \u201cand it\u2019s not really something that we can avoid.
