In a quest to promote teaching and learning amid a global pandemic where schools battle to complete the prescribed curriculum, parents and teachers from Siyafuneka Primary School celebrated the completion of their Home School Partnership (HSP) Programme on Saturday 21 August.<\/p>\n
According to Faith Mexico the co-ordinator for the programme, they started last year with the HSP programme however, they could not complete it due to the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n
The programme, which comprised of 17 parents and eight Grades R and 1 teachers, saw them work hand-in-hand to ensure that parents are able to teach their children at home on the days they do not attend school.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe programme was really testament to the fact that some parents really do care. It was encouraging to see that much dedication from the parents,\u201d Mexico related.<\/p>\n
The teacher further shared that not only learners from Siyafuneka Primary School would benefit from this project but sister schools in the community would too.<\/p>\n
Apart from the partnership and relationship formed with parents, teachers have confirmed that the project has yielded positive results in terms of development of the children.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have picked up that they (children) have better listening and comprehension skills. They have also become better at identifying sounds,\u201d Mantoa Jacobs, head of department mentioned.<\/p>\n
The celebrations comprised a theme: Rise and Shine, which encouraged parents to play a proactive role in the education of their children.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe theme also aims to inspire the parents to have their minds broadened and encourages them to interact with the children,\u201d Jacobs further related.<\/p>\n
Owing to the success of the programme\u2019s success Mexico told Standard<\/span> that she would like more grades to get involved so that parents of the learners can also be a part of the
