The next concert of the Worcester Music Society will be a piano recital of works by Sergei Prokofiev, Joseph Haydn and Frederic Chopin, played by the highly skilled pianist Bronwyn van Wieringen, followed by the Trio for Clarinet, Piano and Cello in A minor, op 114 by Johannes Brahms. It will be given in the Auditorium of the Institute for the Blind in Porter Street on Saturday 5 November, at 16:00.<\/p>\n
Bronwyn van Wieringen has received a string of bursaries, scholarships and awards for her performances, including winning the Johan Vos Piano Competition, the SACS National Music Competition and being placed third in the Hennie Joubert National Piano Competition. In August 2016 she performed as a soloist with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra in the Western Cape Youth Music Festival.<\/p>\n
Matthew Ferrandi has been principal clarinettist of the UCT Symphony Orchestra (2011-\u201914) and has performed as a soloist with the orchestra. He won the coveted Schock Foundation prize for chamber music on three occasions. Matthew is also focussed on extending classical music beyond the traditional concert hall, and has formed an ensemble playing music in more informal settings. <\/p>\n
The cellist, Eddie McLean, has been playing since the age of seven years. On completion of his studies, he was invited to join the renowned Sontonga String Quartet, performing in Australia, the US, Germany, Slovenia and the Netherlands. In the same year he was invited to lead the cello section for a performance of Britten\u2019s Death in Venice. As co-principal cellist of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, Eddie has performed extensively at home and abroad. Recent solo performances include Hendrik Hofmeyr\u2019s cello sonata at the Baxter Concert Hall, and a recital for the Richard Wagner Society.<\/p>\n
