The Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services (JICS), various heads of Correctional services, NPO\u2019s, NGO\u2019s, Legal Wise and the ACDP Councillor for the BVM, Tony Manuel, met to discuss the reintegration of offenders into society. <\/p>\n
Spiritual, youth and skills development, rehabilitation, the establishment of halfway homes and the interaction between family and the offender were also points of discussion. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe believe that spiritual, mental, character and skills development of an ex-offender is of vital importance for the individual. The goal is to prevent previous offenders from returning to prison and living a normal life. There are those who have learnt to adapt to society, developed skills, found jobs and today are married with children of their own,\u201d said Manuel.<\/p>\n
He also expressed his gratitude for those involved with the project.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are business entrepreneurs who also play a huge part in the skills development programme and we are grateful for all the support thus far. We are also confident that the integration process will play an important role in the reduction of crime within our communities and to create a safer environment for all,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
Manuel also extended a special thank you to Correctional Services, Gertrude Slavers and James Daniels from the JICS for initiating the discussion. <\/p>\n
