Residents can look forward to receiving their title deeds from the municipality soon.<\/p>\n
The Breede Valley Municipality (BVM) intends to hand over title deeds to residents of Worcester on 14 March. There are currently 838 title deeds outstanding in the region for the post-1994 period and 562 outstanding for the pre-1994 period. <\/p>\n
According to JP Myburg, BVM Communications Officer, the title-deed restoration programme is a government programme started in 2018. The project aims to transfer and register all non-transferred government-subsidised housing projects. <\/p>\n
\u201cFunding is allocated for beneficiary administration (surveys and investigation) and conveyancing,\u201d he said. \u201cAn amount of R2 000 is allocated per title deed (subsidy) and is divided in half (administration and conveyancing). Conveyancers were appointed for various projects as indicated in the attached spreadsheet.\u201d <\/p>\n
Myburg says the BVM has a partnership with the Free-Market Foundation, which was legislated in a memorandum of understanding. <\/p>\n
He says the Free-Market Foundation approached the municipality in respect of low-cost housing developments, which were completed before 1994 as part of the Housing Schemes of the municipality to attend to beneficiary verifications, administrations and the transfer of Rental properties to the legal tenants. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe parties entered a formal agreement in 2020 to ensure that pre-1994 properties developed as part of housing schemes are transferred to the rightful subsidy beneficiaries. The services is done without any fee.\u201d<\/p>\n
