A young and thriving hockey player from Montagu needs the assistance of the community to make her dream come true.<\/p>\n
Lynique van Wyk, a learner at Montagu High School, was scouted by the Elsie Coetzer Hockey School to travel to the Netherlands to play hockey in September.<\/p>\n
Coetzer is a former national hockey player who has since taken up coaching and has a hockey academy.<\/p>\n
\u201cI could not believe it then and I still cannot believe it now,\u201d said Lynique about her selection to the academy.<\/p>\n
The trip to the Netherlands is due to take place in October and the cost is about R45 000.<\/p>\n
The Van Wyk family has made great strides in raising funds to make the young girl\u2019s dream come true.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have made good progress as we have passed the halfway mark, but we still need the assistance of the community,\u201d said Lyndon van Wyk, Lynique\u2019s father.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am very proud of her especially after what she went through in the past year.\u201d<\/p>\n
The girl lost her mother and grandmother in the space of a year, but this did not stand in her way of reaching her goal.<\/p>\n
She said the prospect of her future is what keeps her going.<\/p>\n
\u201cI also want to coach hockey one day,\u201d Lynique said.<\/p>\n
Despite all the heartache endured over the past year, the avid hockey player also made it to the Boland hockey team.<\/p>\n
She will be in Stellenbosch this week with her Boland team as they participate in the IPT tournament.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am also excited to be in Stellenbosch because it is my first time in the regional side, and I hope to acquire more skills and just have fun with the team.\u201d<\/p>\n
