Nine businesses and two towns from the Breede Valley, Robertson and Witzenberg were nominated for the prestigious Best of the Cape awards hosted by the Cape Town based radio station, Kfm.<\/p>\n

This annual competition aims to uplift small and local businesses and to crown the best of the best.<\/p>\n

Last year the popular Matroosberg Mountain Reserve outside Ceres took home top honours after being named the best tourist attraction in the Western Cape \u2013 beating the V&A Waterfront and Table Mountain.<\/p>\n

This year, many local attractions, businesses, farms and even two towns are vying for top spots in all of the different categories. Here they are:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Best local craft beer:<\/h4>\n

Mountain Brewing Company (Worcester)<\/p>\n

Mountain Brewing Company is a beer company based in the Klipbokkop Mountain Reserve, Worcester. Brewed with the reserve\u2019s finest mountain spring water and an 8-week brewing process, Mountain Brewing Co beers are given time to develop their full flavour. Since its humble beginning in 2014, Mountain Brewing Co has won numerous awards for its unique flavoursome craft beer.<\/p>\n

Best corner shop:<\/h4>\n

Montagu Local<\/p>\n

Established last year, Montagu Local supports local artisan entrepreneurs and healthy products. It is a small, stylish store that is owned and stocked by locals. Now Montagu has healthy and whole foods on its doorstep.<\/p>\n

Best farmstall:<\/h4>\n

Pure Boland Market (Worcester)<\/p>\n

On every first Saturday of the month, in the Brandwacht Valley just outside of Worcester, local traders come together for the Pure Boland Farmers Market. People enjoy craft beer, coffee and freshly made roosterkoek. Nominated for offering the best local produce and crafts and for supporting local small businesses. During lockdown, this market even helped its vendors by starting an online shop to generate income.<\/p>\n

Best wine brand:<\/h4>\n

Deetlefs Wine (Rawsonville)<\/p>\n

The second oldest family-owned wine estate in South Africa, Deetlefs is a wine brand that is steeped in the history of seven generations since 1822. Situated in Rawsonville in the Breedekloof Valley, the area\u2019s unsurpassed climate, rivers and varied geology all leave their mark on Deetlefs\u2019 unique, award-winning wines.<\/p>\n

Springfield Wine (Robertson)<\/p>\n

Set in the heart of the Robertson Valley, Springfield Estate is a family-run wine farm that has been in the family since 1898. They are known to sometimes combine risky winemaking techniques with traditional methods and modern technology. But in all they do, they always stay true to their motto: Made on Honour.<\/p>\n

Best wedding venue:<\/h4>\n

Bosjes (Worcester)<\/p>\n

A work of architectural brilliance framed by two mountain ranges, the Bosjes chapel is a breathtaking wedding location. You\u2019ll find it at the foot of the Waaihoek Mountain in the stunning Breede Valley. For any pair of lovers looking for a venue they won\u2019t forget, Bosjes is worth the journey.<\/p>\n

Kole en Deeg (Tulbagh)<\/p>\n

Kole & Deeg is based in the beautiful town of Tulbagh. It is a family-owned venture that serves authentic, well-prepared, flavourful food and excellent coffee. They pay great attention to detail when it comes to plating, and the food looks just as good as it tastes.<\/p>\n

Best guest house:<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n

Surrounded by uninterrupted mountain views, you\u2019ll find this sanctuary in the Little Karoo near Montagu. Be awestruck by panoramic views and glorious birdsong during the day, and star-studded skies and a symphony of jackals at night.<\/p>\n

Best tourist attraction:<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n

Matroosberg Mountain Reserve<\/p>\n

Winner of the Best Tourist Attraction\u2019 category last year, the Matroosberg Private Nature Reserve has been nominated once again for providing a wide range of adventurous activities for its visitors. Mountain biking, hiking, and abseiling are only a few of the fun options available at the reserve, along with its winter itinerary that allows visitors to enjoy snow-based adrenaline adventures.<\/p>\n
