The SA Weather Service has released an advisory about strong winds in the area, especially for today (Thursday 25 August) and has asked the public to be cautious.<\/p>\n
Towns and areas affected are Beaufort West, Breede Valley, City of Cape Town, Drakenstein, Hantam, Kannaland, Karoo Hoogland, Laingsburg, Langeberg, Oudtshoorn, Prince Albert, Stellenbosch, Swellendam, Theewaterskloof and Witzenberg. <\/p>\n
An approaching cold front is expected to result in strong north-westerly winds with speeds between 50 and 60 km\/h gusting up to 90 km\/h over the southern Namakwa (Northern Cape), the Western Cape Winelands, Central Karoo, northern parts of the Garden Route, Overberg and City of Cape Town districts. These strong winds are likely to cause damage in these areas.<\/p>\n
Localised damage to formal\/informal settlements is possible. Fallen trees may affect transport routes, properties, and localised power and communication interruption. Due to dust, visibility may be reduced on the road. Some transport routes and travel services may be affected, and high-sided vehicles due to crosswind on exposed high-level roads by wind.<\/p>\n
Be aware of the following: – sudden cross winds if travelling especially between buildings, fallen trees, or power lines. <\/p>\n
