Worcester police will be on high alert this festive season to nip potential incidents of violence and savagery in the bud. <\/p>\n
This according to local police spokesperson Warrant Officer Vathiswa Jacobs.<\/p>\n
This follows several incidents of violence in the region, some cases even involving murder.<\/p>\n
Areas such as Riverview, Roodewal, Zwelethemba, Avianpark and Hexpark are areas targeted by violence, especially gun violence. <\/p>\n
The police confirmed plans were in place to monitor these areas and more visible policing had been applied in the past few months.<\/p>\n
On 30 November, around 14:00, the police received a complaint about a fight that had broken out at the Riverview Flats among school learners.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn our arrival we found the victim lying on his back with a stab wound to the chest,\u201d Jacobs said. <\/p>\n
\u201cAccording to the victim\u2019s mother the victim was stabbed by a fellow learner living in the Riverview Flats. <\/p>\n
\u201cShe was shocked and still don\u2019t know the reason for the stabbing,\u201d <\/p>\n
The victim was taken to Worcester Hospital in a neighbour\u2019s car. <\/p>\n
A case of attempted murder was opened and the suspect was arrested and appeared in the Worcester Magistrates\u2019 Court.<\/p>\n
In another incident, on Friday 2 December at about 05:45, a couple living near Hoogelegen in Langerug had an argument that led to the death of one person.<\/p>\n
\u201cAccording to a witness the deceased and suspect had an argument and fought, and the suspect hit the deceased in the face with a stick and stone. The deceased went to sleep while still bleeding profusely. <\/p>\n
\u201cHis lifeless body was found outside the house the following morning, in the veld behind. Emergency services certified him dead on the scene. The suspect was gone when the police arrived, but was later arrested.\u201d<\/p>\n
A case of murder has been opened and the suspect will appear on 12 December. The suspect is in custody.<\/p>\n
