Local museums in the Langeberg and Breede Valley are dusting themselves off to welcome visitors to enjoy something exciting.<\/p>\n
Worcester Museum, at Kleinplasie on the R60 (Robertson road), has big plans underway for this year\u2019s Museum Day, which is marked internationally, hoping to welcome many visitors there.<\/p>\n
This day has been held every year since 1977 to celebrate the importance of these institutions.<\/p>\n
The purpose of International Museum Day is to raise awareness of museums as important resources of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding and cooperation.<\/p>\n
It is celebrated on or around 18 May every year.<\/p>\n
More and more museums around the world are participating in international Museum Day.<\/p>\n
In 2019, more than 37 000 museums in approximately 158 countries participated in the event.<\/p>\n
Each year also has a specific theme. This year\u2019s is \u201cMuseums \u2013 sustainability and well-being\u201d, and will be celebrated on Thursday 18 May.<\/p>\n
Worcester Museum at Kleinplasie will offer various traditional museum activities to visitors and the famous donkeys, who now have names thanks to Standard, <\/i>can also be visited.<\/p>\n
Currently, its two large resident tortoises are the proud parents of lots of little ones that hatched a few months ago.<\/p>\n
The turtle parents are in need of names and the community is welcome to assist.<\/p>\n
Entries for names for the two, one male and one female, can be sent to cwmuseumvriende@gmail.com.<\/p>\n
Naomi Theron of Breede Valley Tourism told Standard<\/i> the programme \u201cstarts at 09:30 with a special opening by the Western Cape Regional Manager, Emile Badenhorst.<\/p>\n
\u201cTea and coffee will be offered at 11:00 the Worcester Museum Friends Annual General Meeting will be held.<\/p>\n
\u201cDemonstrations are presented by the museum staff and dancing and music are planned for the day. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe visitors can later enjoy a delicious meal at the museum restaurant.\u201d <\/p>\n
