ZWELETHEMBA – Zwelethemba High School\u2019s robotics squad achieved the top spot at the First Tech Challenge National Championships held at Parkland College last Saturday in Cape Town. <\/p>\n
This victory comes on the heels of their Motivate Award win at the regional FTC event hosted by Protea Heights Academy just last month.<\/p>\n
Outperforming more than 20 other teams at the national championships, \u201cthe Einsteins\u201d, as they\u2019re fondly called, secured the Finalist Alliance Award, recognising them as the second-best duo in the championship match. <\/p>\n
Currently ranked South Africa\u2019s second-best FTC team, their success is a testament to their hard work and perseverance.<\/p>\n
Farai Takawira, the team\u2019s robotics educator and head coach, praised the Einsteins for their outstanding performance, emphasising their dedication and ability to overcome challenges. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re grateful for the team\u2019s efforts in showcasing our school on such a grand stage,\u201d he said. \u201cRobotics holds great importance for our school, and I couldn\u2019t be happier with the team\u2019s achievement, especially given the tough competition this past weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n
Liyema James (16), a member of the Einsteins, highlighted the positive impact of the robotics club on his life. \u201cThe robotics club not only provides us with fun and learning,\u201d he said, \u201cbut also offers valuable hands-on opportunities to develop STEM skills.\u201d Liyema admitted that without the club he could have been led astray. <\/p>\n
