Worcester athlete Rogail Joseph, (23) hailing from Roodewal, has once again solidified her status as a rising star in the world of athletics. Her recent triumph at the 2024 All Africa Games in Ghana saw her clinch the Gold Medal for South Africa in the 400m Hurdles, marking her third Continental Gold Medal to date.<\/p>\n
Joseph\u2019s journey to success is as remarkable as her achievements on the track. It all began in her formative years at Riverview Primary School, where she laid the groundwork for her athletic prowess. Matriculating in 2018 at Worcester Gymnasium, Joseph emerged from her alma mater with a passion for sports that would propel her onto the international stage.<\/p>\n
\u201cI started participating in athletics when I was in primary school,\u201d Joseph said. \u201cI was training six times a week, with Wednesdays reserved for rest. But mostly, I was on the track and in the gym.\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite encountering numerous challenges along the way, Joseph\u2019s unwavering determination only fuelled her desire for success. \u201cYes, I faced a lot of challenges, but that motivated me to work harder to be successful,\u201d she affirmed.<\/p>\n
Reflecting on her experience competing alongside top-class athletes, Joseph described it as nothing short of amazing. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe experience was incredible, especially when you run with top-class athletes,\u201d Joseph exclaimed. \u201cI was a bit nervous and stressed, but I was in such good shape that I did not really doubt myself. I knew that I would give my best.\u201dJoseph\u2019s Gold Medal win at the All Africa Games adds to an impressive list of achievements. She has previously secured Gold for both the 100m and 400m at the 2019 African u-20 Championship. Moreover, she has been recognised for her outstanding talent, being named the Standard\u2019s SuperSport Let\u2019s Play Champion for 2018.<\/p>\n
Her dedication to her sport has earned her accolades both nationally and internationally. In addition to her Continental Gold Medals, she has represented South Africa at various prestigious events, including the IAAF u-20 World Championships in Finland.<\/p>\n
Upon her recent nomination as the Emerging Athlete of the Year at the Gsport4girls Awards, Joseph expressed her gratitude and pride. \u201cIt\u2019s a great honor for me,\u201d she stated. \u201cI\u2019m proud of myself and excited because it\u2019s a significant achievement. The competition has honored athletes like Caster Semenya.\u201d<\/p>\n
Looking ahead, Joseph has her sights set on qualifying for the 2024 Olympic Games in Tokyo. \u201cMy coach, Rodney Booysen, and I are working hard on our plan, and I believe we are close to my goal of qualifying,\u201d she affirmed.<\/p>\n
