Dit was egter nie te danke aan die winter se oorstromings nie. Die konvooi moes \u2019n langer roete volg as normaal \u2013 sowat vier keer die gewone afstand \u2013 omdat die vrag op die 88-wiel-sleepwa wat die skip vervoer het, so hoog was. Die hele kombinasie, insluitend die trek- en stootvoertuie, was 47 m lank.<\/p>\n<p>Die sleepwa is oor die laaste paar kilometer deur \u2019n stoet veteraanmotors en trekkers wat toeters geblaas het, vergesel, terwyl geesdriftige skares en luide kerkklokke die vaartuig verwelkom het.<\/p>\n<p>Die historiese sleeptuig is amper twee jaar gelede deur die Villiersdorp-tak van die Wes-Kaapse Trekker- en Enjin-klub gekoop om haar van sloping te red. <\/p>\n<p>Die <span>Alwyn Vintcent <\/span>is in 1957 in Venesi\u00eb vir die destydse Suid-Afrikaanse Spoorwe\u00eb en Hawens-administrasie gebou en het 24 jaar lank in die Mosselbaai-hawe gedien. Sy het ligter vragte na en van posskepe gesleep wat te groot was om die hawe binne te gaan. Haar lang agterdek is spesiaal ontwerp om passasiers in \u2019n mandjie tussen vaartuie oor te plaas.<\/p>\n<p>Die <span>Alwyn Vintcent<\/span> het laas in 1994 met stoom gewerk en was die laaste stoomvaartuig op die Suid-Afrikaanse skeepsregister. N\u00e1 haar uitdiensstelling is sy al sewe keer van sloping gered. <\/p>\n<p>Haar aankoms in Villiersdorp lui die begin van \u2019n nuwe fase in haar loopbaan in. Sy sal tot haar volle stoomvermo\u00eb herstel word om moontlik af en toe op dro\u00eb grond in aksie te wees.<\/p>\n<p>Ook blaas die stoomskip as groot toeriste-aantrekking nuwe lewe in Villiersdorp. <\/p>\n<p>Die Alwyn Vintcent-padstal pronk reeds met sy heerlike versnaperings en dit is nie onmoontlik dat die stoomskip in die nabye toekoms hotelverblyf sal aanbied nie.<\/p>\n<p>Villiersdorp kan
