Al wat hy wou doen, was om booswigte wat by ‘n bakkie probeer inbreek het, te verwilder. Ongelukkig het hy met sy lewe geboet toe die eienaar van die bakkie na bewering op die booswigte losgebrand en hom in die proses gewond het.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John Jacobs (63) van Ysselstraat in Riverview, Worcester, het Maandag (17 November), ‘n dag n\u00e1 die voorval, in die Worcester-hospitaal<\/a> aan sy skietwond beswyk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sy oudste seun, Alston Jacobs (42), vertel dat sy pa Sondagoggend (16 November) \u2013 die dag van die voorval \u2013 skuins voor 11:00 saam met ‘n vriend by ‘n winkel in Durbanstraat was om hoender te koop.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens Alston het sy pa hom in die ambulans op pad na die hospitaal vertel dat hy \u2013 toe hy by die winkel uitgestap het \u2013 ‘n groep boosdoeners gewaar het wat by ‘n bakkie wat voor ‘n kruidenierswinkel geparkeer was, wou inbreek.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alston s\u00ea sy pa het oor die straat in die rigting van die bakkie \u2013 waarin ‘n vroulike insittende was \u2013 gestap om die booswigte te verwilder.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens hom het die eienaar van die bakkie in daardie stadium uit ‘n kitskosrestaurant gestap gekom, in sy bakkie geklim, ‘n vuurwapen uitgehaal en na bewering op die booswigte \u2013 wat besig was om weg te hardloop \u2013 begin skiet.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hy vertel dat sy pa \u2013 wat op die toneel agtergebly het \u2013 ook in die proses gewond is.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens Alston het die koe\u00ebl sy pa aan die linkerkant van sy maag deurboor en by sy lies uitgeskiet.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hy s\u00ea die koe\u00ebl het onder meer ‘n slagaar getref.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Ek was by die werk toe my suster se verloofde my bel en s\u00ea ek moet dringend huis toe kom, want my pa is in Durbanstraat<\/a> geskiet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“My manager het my tot by die toneel in Durbanstraat geneem. Toe ek daar kom, was my pa reeds in die ambulans.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Ek het ook in die ambulans geklim en saam hospitaal toe gery. In die ambulans het my pa my vertel wat gebeur het.” Volgens Alston is ‘n klomp toetse op sy pa gedoen waarna ‘n noodoperasie van sowat vier ure op hom uitgevoer is om onder meer die bloeding te stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alston vertel dat sy pa na afloop van die operasie na die hospitaal se waaksaal oorgeplaas is. “N\u00e1 die operasie het my pa nooit weer bygekom nie.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens John se hartseer vrou, Elsie (66), het sy en haar gesin tot n\u00e1 twaalfuur die nag by haar man in die waaksaal gewaak.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens Alston was sy pa se toestand nog onveranderd toe hulle hom Maandagoggend elfuur in die hospi-\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

taal gaan besoek het.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hy vertel verder: “Twee-uur [Maandagmiddag] toe bel die hospitaal ons om te s\u00ea my pa lyk nie goed nie.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Ons het toe tot so 17:00 by hom gebly. So 19:02 toe bel die hospitaal om te s\u00ea my pa is oorlede.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Al wat my pa wou doen, was om iemand te probeer help en kyk wat kry hy terug.”\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘n Hartseer Elsie s\u00ea aan Standard Breederivier Gazette: “Ek kan nie beskryf hoe ek voel nie. Om hom hier te sien uitstap en dan later te hoor hy is geskiet \u2013 dis seer.”\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sy beskryf haar man as “baie behulpsaam” en “\u2009’n omgee-mens”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Begrafnisre\u00eblings is nog nie gefinaliseer nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AO Vathiswa Jacobs, ‘n polisiewoordvoerder, s\u00ea ‘n verdagte is op die dag van die skietvoorval in hegtenis geneem.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
