“This initiative reflects the council’s ongoing commitment to inclusive infrastructure that addresses the varied needs of our communities. Our goal is for all wards to benefit, as we continue working to uphold dignity, improve accessibility, and ensure the safety of all residents,” said councillor Palesa Moso, member of the Mayoral Committee for Housing and Human Settlements.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to John Bulani of the municipality’s communication department, the bathrooms were constructed at existing municipal rental units and on properties previously owned by the state or council. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“In each ward where the project is rolled out, priority is given to elderly individuals (either the owner or tenant aged 60 and above), persons with disabilities, and households with inadequate or no sanitation facilities,” he said.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the 2025-’26 financial year, Wards 3 and 4 in De Doorns have been earmarked for implementation. The initial target is up to twenty (20) units, subject to the availability of funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\nSeventeen new bathrooms were built in
