Western Cape matric learners share their nerves and excitement as they prepare for the final NSC exams.
The Western Cape Education Department has raised concerns about late arrivals as 85 candidates begin their matric exams.

The Western Cape Department of Education said the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations got off to a smooth start but expressed concern about the number of learners arriving late.

In the province, 71 302 full-time and 13 834 part-time and repeat NSC candidates are sitting the exams, which started on Tuesday, 13 October.

The exams began with Computer Applications Technology Practical and will conclude on Wednesday, 25 November.

Western Cape Education Minister Jaco Londt has urged matric candidates to arrive at examination venues at least an hour before their exams begin.

“We urge all candidates to arrive at examination venues at least 1 hour before the starts of the exam. Arriving early ensures that learners are present for the reading of exam rules and the required reading time helping them begin the exam calmly and confidently.”

He said arriving early would help learners avoid last-minute stress caused by possible transport delays or accidents.

“Take into account possible train delays or accidents. Rather be at the venue early where you can revision rather than being rushed and stressed before the exam. Stay focused and remain disciplined.”

Londt also called on communities to help ensure the exams proceed without disruptions.

He wished learners well and encouraged them to improve on the 88.2% pass rate achieved by the Class of 2025.
