Parents and guardians who have failed to find a place at a school for their children for next year should start contacting schools in their neighbourhood to find out if any places have opened up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Schools should have informed parents\/guardians by 22 June if their children had been accepted into a school following the application for enrolment for 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Western Cape Department of Education (WCED) urges all parents\/guardians to confirm acceptance by the school of their choice so that schools can determine if they can accommodate additional new learners. Parents\/guardians should also inform a school if they have declined a place there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The department explains that some schools are more popular than others and learners won\u2019t necessarily receive placement at their first choice school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe encourage parents, firstly, to contact schools in their area to determine if additional spaces have become available and confirm their placement on the school\u2019s waiting list,\u201d explained WCED spokesperson Jessica Shelver in a media release this week. Should a parent not be successful then they can contact their nearest district office. Each WCED district office has officials assigned to help with placement queries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Admissions for 2019 in some of these schools are closed as they have already reached capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
