The ArcelorMittal Saldanha Science Centre achieved excellent results at the online World Robotics Olympiad, which took place from Monday 25 October until Saturday 30 October. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Robotics specialist Siposethu Dudu Legoabe has been preparing numerous clubs as teams from six different primary schools from the Saldanha Bay municipal area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
After the online competition had ended the teams all waited with bated breath for the final results, which were adjudicated by an independent panel online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All nine local teams that entered received recognition for their participation. At the end of the day St Andrew\u2019s Primary School in Saldanha won gold. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Xavier Lawrence, manager of the centre, said one of the values of the Science Centre is that no learner or participant is a loser irrespective of the outcome of participation. He would like to thank his staff for assisting where they could and for supporting Dudu in her efforts to encourage the learners to develop 21st Century skills. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTo all the schools and dedicated teachers who ensured that these learners were well prepared we send out a special word of thanks and appreciation,\u201d said Lawrence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFinally to the learners, we have laid the foundation and will ensure that we use every opportunity to expose you to the technology that will be needed to secure jobs and skills of the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that the Science Centre remains committed to the West Coast community and he extend an open invitation for the public to visit and see the wonderful group of dedicated people in action. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTo Dudu once again, well done for this wonderful achievement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Participating schools included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Steensberg\u2019s Cove Primary School won bronze. Team members were: Chloe Erusmus, Lyla Smith and Tia Cloete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Middelpos Primary School won silver. Team members were Atsho Khaba, Achumile Peter, Athandile Dyani and Lethu Citwa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Diazville Primary School won bronze. Team members were Chandre Maerman, Sheneeca Jansen, Chrizelle Koopman, Darren Davids and Curtley Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Noordhoek Primary School won silver. Team members were Stanton Jagels, Janique Hendriks and Noah Jantjies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
